Gaming servers and services shutting down is a common thing that happens in the industry. When certain systems are no longer supported, companies will need to transition to the latest to keep up-to-date with the latest technology.Ubisoft is also shutting down online services for certain games, many of these being older titles that have been released on a number of older systems. This includes games from the company’s flagship IP Assassin’s Creed, which will shut down these services in September. One game that wasn’t listed in the initial announcement but will also be affected isAssassin’s Creed Liberation HD.
Originally released asAssassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, it was a spin-off that took place alongside theevents ofAssassin’s Creed 3, where it followed the adventures of Aveline de Grandpre in her conflict against the Templars. This was originally released on the PS Vita in 2012 before getting a remake on the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 asAssassin’s Creed Liberation HD. This game would then get ported to current-gen systems when it was included as a part ofAssassin’s Creed 3 Remasteredin 2019. It’s no surprise that with Ubisoft shutting down services for certain older releases, this game would be affected too.

Fans have noticed that the Steam page forAssassin’s Creed Liberation HDhas been currently delisted, meaning that fans can’t buy this old version anymore. However, there is a notice stating that thisAssassin’s Creedgame will no longer be accessiblearound the same date that Ubisoft will be shutting down its online services. This ultimately means players who previously bought and currently own the game will no longer be able to play this old version.
Ubisoft stated in its officialdeactivation of services for certainAssassin’s Creedgamesthat the remastered releases won’t be affected by this closure. The statement also notes that this shutdown is to focus on newer or more popular titles that Ubisoft is currently supporting.
A lot of the reception has been negative, much like the announcement of the shutdown of Ubisoft’s other game services. This can be seen with some recent reviews onAssassin’s Creed Liberation HD’s Steam page, with many expressing their frustration at having bought the game but no longer being able to play it when September comes around. Players will soon only have one option to playAssassin’s Creed Liberation, that being through theAssassin’s Creed 3remaster.
