Master Chief has gone through a number of changes throughout theHalofranchise’s lifespan, with the game series swapping developers and art styles over the course of two decades. While the core identity has remained mostly the same, 343 Industries has added its own flair to what Bungie created all those years ago, and now one artist has blended the two developers' work into something new.

Twitter user FletchUH shared a version ofHalo 3’s artworkdone in the style ofHalo Infinite, bringing the iconic cover forward into a new generation. The background of the piece, featuring Cortana’s eyes and wreckage dotting a distant landscape, has remained unchanged, but Master Chief’s look has been given a fair share of love for fans of the games to fawn over.

The artwork incorporates 343 Industries' new model of the iconic Spartan, with his armor reflecting the light better than it does in the original artwork. Seeing the old and new models on top of each other is interesting in its own right, as it’s easy to forget just how muchMaster Chief’s look has evolvedsince the series debuted. Both pieces are worthy of the franchise, but FletchUH’s touchups definitely make for a compelling image.

In his post, FletchUH comments on how well 343 has nailed Master Chief’s model for the upcoming game, citing it as his favorite in the entire series. WhileHalo Infinite’sfirst gameplay demowas poorly received by some fans due to a perceived lack of detail, the game has been delayed, giving 343 more time to refine the look. Recent screenshots have shown impressive visual fidelity, though it will be interesting to see how the game has changed when it launches.

Like most properties, theHaloseries has had its ups and downs. Luckily, however, it seems to be entering a golden age, withHalo: Master Chief Collectionbeing updated regularly, andHalo Infiniteslated to be a 10-year project. That puts the franchise in a solid position for the future, the main question being what comes afterHalo Infinite.

According to a recent Microsoft job listing, anotherHaloproject could even be in the works, so fans shouldn’t have to deal with a shortage of Master Chief, or at the very leastHalo, for quite some time. Hopefully, that means seeing fans produce more artwork like this, or possibly even big new fan-driven projects built from the ground up.

Halo Infiniteis in development now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
