Announced earlier this year as the Unreal Engine 5 remake ofARK: Survival Evolved,ARK: Survival Ascendedwas released for PC back in October. TheXbox version ofARK: Survival Ascendedwas delayeda few times, but was recently released on November 21. Initially, the plan was that the game would offer full crossplay between different versions, but its developer Studio Wildcard had to halt this plan for now.
Studio Wildcard has recently confirmed that crossplay PvP between Windows clients and other platforms has been temporarily suspended inARK: Survival Ascended. According to the official announcement, this was a “difficult decision,” but necessary to preserve the health of the game. Right now, Studio Wildcard is working together with Microsoft and Battleye to implement solutions that could prevent PC players from cheating while playing against others. The affected server types include XX-PVP-THEISLAND ###, XX-PVP-SMALLTRIBES-THEISLAND ###, XX-PVP-MODDED-THEISLAND ###, and XX-PVP-ARKPOCALYPSE-THEISLAND ###. Starting now, Windows clients won’t be able to play on these servers anymore. Private servers and all single-player aspects of the game will not be affected, and Windows players will still be able to access them normally. Unfortunately, Studio Wildcard did not give an expected timeframe for when the issue will be fixed, so gamers should wait for further announcements.

This decision was made in the wake of the community’s uproar over cheating, which seems to be widespread in the PC version of the game at the moment. Unfortunately, it seems Studio Wildcard currently lacks the ability to effectively enforce anti-cheating systems inARK: Survival Ascended’s PvP combat.
At the moment,ARK: Survival Ascendedis available for PC and Xbox Series X/S. A recent update revealed thatARK: Survival Ascendedwill be released for PS5 in early December. By the time Studio Wildcard promised the date, it was still working through the game’s certification with Sony. When the PS5 version is launched, it’s highly likely that Windows clients will still be banned from crossplay servers, but that remains to be seen.
