Alllllllrighty then, it looks likeAce Venturafans might finally be reaching the end of a 26-year drought.Ace Ventura 3is reportedly in the works, and it looks to be bringing the writers behind a certain spiky blue blur with it.
As part of a recent interview, production company Morgan Creek Entertainment teased the idea of an upcoming sequel to the series that turned Jim Carrey into a household name (and even forgeda roundabout connection with game developer CD Projekt Red). Being the company that producedAce Ventura: Pet Detective, andAce Ventura: When Nature Calls, the group’s mention of the zany franchise comes from a place of authority, quickly sparking buzz that a 3rd film would finally make its way out into the world.

Near the end of the interview, Morgan Creek answered a question regarding its future plans, saying “it’s noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page forAce Venturathat audiences are clamoring for a 3rd installment…Ace Venturawill see a new day at Amazon as a major motion-picture/theatrical with theSonic the Hedgehogwriters.” Their answer also notably named Amazon as the likely streaming home for the film upon its eventual release.
Now here’s where things get a bit tricky. While the original version of the article featuring the interview included a full quote sayingAce Ventura3is coming to Amazon with the writers ofSonic the Hedgehog, at some point, the quote was altered to remove that particular segment. An archived version of the articlecan still be found with the quote intact, but its removal raises some questions about the legitimacy of this new rumor. Was it just a slip of the tongue that was mistakenly published before an official announcement could be made? Or was the statement simply found to be false? Even if it’s true, it will likely be a while, sinceproduction has only just begun onSonic the Hedgehog 2.
Whatever the case, in the interest of speculation, anAce Venturafilm with the writers ofSonic the Hedgehogwould be a truly unique experience to say the least. Their fast and quippy writing style could actually mesh well with the Pet Detective’s trademark energetic deliveries, though it might need some tweaking to accommodate the more raunchy humor fans will expect from Carrey’s wacky character. Plus, on that note, the writers are already accustomed to working withCarrey, who played Dr. Robotnik in theSonicfilm, so that’s theoretically one less hurdle as well.
But again, there are still many questions left to answer. Will the production of a 3rdAce Venturafilm be confirmed by official sources in the near future? Will a new film make an effort to move on from the, in retrospect, very transphobic and otherwise problematic elements of the first two movies? Will the monkey come back? Only time will tell, but it’ll sure be fun to think about. In the meantime, maybe go enjoy theobscureAce VenturaEaster egg inWorld of Warcraft.
