From brilliant RPGs to high-octane action titles across the board, the PS2’s library was full to the brim with some of the greatest video games ever made.

This is precisely what makes it quite a shame that some of the best games on this platform never really managed to establish themselves as long-running franchises due to a palpable lack of sequels. One can argue that the following ten titles suffered the most, in particular.
9Ico
Team Icois one of the most legendary studios of all time, and one need only look at the first game they developed to understand why their titles were such amazing pieces of art.
The idea of playing an escort game all the time might not sound all that appealing, but it’s a testament to the brilliant design ethos ofIcothat this gameplay loop doesn’t get tiring in the slightest. A sequel to this title would definitely be welcome.
8Shadow Of The Colossus
However,Icoisn’t really the game that most people want a sequel to — that honor goes toShadow of the Colossus, one of the greatest and most unique games on the console.
While the remake of this title did allow gamers in the modern generation to experience the magic of this game for themselves, one can’t deny that a sequel to this legendary title would definitely break the internet.
Of course, given the way things end in this game, this is quite a long shot.
7Final Fantasy XII
While theFinal Fantasyseries is full to the brim with titles across the board, to call any main numbered title a sequel to the previous one would be quite an incorrect statement. After all, the mere fact thatFinal Fantasy X’s sequel is calledFinal Fantasy X-2should make this statement clear enough.

Keeping this in mind, one could definitely wish for a sequel toFinal Fantasy XIIas well.The game itself is quite a joy to play through, and a sequel would allow people to roam around the beautiful land of Ivalice once again.

Easily one of the most special and noteworthy titles on this list,Okamiis a massive breath of fresh air in an industry where taking risks with major releases is generally frowned upon.
It’s unfortunate thatOkamiended up being a commercial failuresince the gameplay and art style of this title is truly one-of-a-kind. Perhaps the announcement of a sequel could bring some much-needed attention towardsthis criminally underrated IP.
5Bully
It’s still hard to believe that Rockstar hasn’t released a sequel toBullyyet — a shame, given the fact that the original game is a brilliant and entertaining romp in the shoes of a high school truant who gets caught up ina rather interesting turn of events at Bullworth Academy.
While it’s true thatBullywas quite controversial upon release, Rockstar Games is the last company to be scared of something like this. If anything, they feed off of controversy, makingBully 2a perfect candidate for their next title.
4TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
TimeSplittersis easily one of the most underappreciated FPS franchises of all time, and it’s a shame that the title has not seen nary a peep since 2005 withTimeSplitters: Future Perfect.
Featuring excellent campaigns across the three games in the series coupled with some exciting multiplayer, one can only hope thatTimeSplittersis revived sooner rather than later with the next game in the series.

3Dark Cloud 2
Also known asDark Chronicle,Dark Cloud 2is a brilliant game that combines the mechanics of a city sim along withclassic JRPG gameplayto make for a wholesome and addicting package.
Given the massive number of JRPGs that have come into the limelight in recent times, there’s no better time forDark Cloudto come roaring back into the mainstream with the announcement of a well-deserved sequel.
2Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones
Easily one of the greatest Ubisoft franchises of all time,Prince of Persiahad once established itself as one of the greatest video game trilogies of all time, withThe Two Thronescapping off this trilogy in style.

That being said, one can’t deny that this series very much deserves a continuation of sorts that carries forward the story fromThe Two Thrones. People thought that they were finally receiving the same in the form ofPrince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands… only for this disappointing title to be nothing more than a cash-in title for the movie that was coming out around the same time.
1Beyond Good & Evil
While it might be cheating to put this game on the list — given the fact that a sequel to this title has already been announced — there’s no denying the fact that, out of most of the games developed by Ubisoft,Beyond Good & Evilis very much deserving of a sequel.
Unfortunately, aside from a rather impressive showcase, there’s barely any news that has come out forBeyond Good & Evil 2up to this point. The lack of any follow-up information onBeyond Good & Evil 2means that a sequel still feels far away, despite it being in development. Hopefully, it will happen in due time.
